Why did you homeschool?

  1. The education system is broken
  2. To teach religion in all subjects
  3. Concerned about school environment (safety, drugs, negative peer pressure)
  4. Dissatisfied with the academic instruction at the schools
  5. To support a learning disabled child
  6. To educate children during a family relocation to another state or country
  7. Support a child in sports who practice 8-10 hours a day
  8. To be the primary influence on your children
  9. Other

According to the U.S. Department of Education’s National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), who conduct The National Household Education Survey (NHES) every four years says that 26% of parents choose to homeschool is C, the negative environment.

The negative environment was not my top reason. Honestly I would have to fit into i or other.  I’ll write why in my next blog post.

What was your answer? Has it changed since the beginning to now?

Passover took place on Nisan 14, the Israelites first month of their year. To prepare for the Passover Feast they choose a lamb, brought him into their home, cleaned their home of all leaven, killed the lamb and ate it along with unleavened bread and bitter herbs. The Feast of Unleavened Bread began the next day and continued for seven days. They were to eat no leaven during these days. And during these seven day was the First Fruits offering which was done on the first day following the Sabbath (Saturday for us).

The First Fruits were the first harvest of the spring – barley. They proffered it to the temple where is was threshed and ground into flour. The next morning the flour was mixed with oil and frankincense and a hand full of it was burnt, sacrificed, on the alter. These “First Fruits” were a symbol of the gratitude of the people for the harvest. They first gave God an offering before partaking of the harvest themselves. When we give a portion to God he blesses and sanctifies the whole.

According to the book of John, Jesus was Resurrected at the same time the “First Fruits” offerings were being given at the temple. Jesus was the first to be resurrected. He is our “First Fruits” offering. He gave himself as our “First Fruits” offering so God will bless and sanity the whole or all the rest of us.

Jesus Christ!
All Glory for His Life,
All Glory for His Sacrifice.
All Glory to His Name! and for Who He Became.
Because of Him We are Sanctified and Can All Be Born-again.
Because of Him We are All Blessed and Can Live with God Again.
Remember HIM!
All Glory to Him!
ALL GLORY TO HIM!

Chag Sameach, Happy Holy Days.

Making History Relative

(spiritual version)

How do you make history more exciting and real for your children? Talk about people who they can connect to! Most history curricula follows the empirical, traditional method of short-listing dates, places, and names of prominent dead people who aren’t very interesting to kids. Neil L. Anderson put forth a challenge for youth to “prepare as many names for the temple as baptisms you perform in the temple, and help someone else to do the same.” (#templechallenge) He was speaking of doing your own ancestral and temple work, and with this comes an amazing opportunity for homeschoolers to incorporate stories and timelines from your own family genealogy to change your child’s entire perception of history. I will show you how to actually homeschool using genealogy as your history curriculum – even into all the disciplines of math, language arts, science, social studies, and more.

Tresta's Homeschool Story

Tresta Neil

As a child, Tresta believed the words “you’re stupid” and when she barely graduated High School she thought she had her proof. After graduating college with two degrees she still felt unintelligent. When her husband asked her to homeschool their four small children she panicked, how could she teach them?  what if it wasn’t enough? She could ruin them! She found a wonderful mentor to guide her. She spent the next several years in a small basement apartment hiding from the world and teaching her children in secret. During that time she discovered how to learn and how to make connections between the mind and the heart by focusing on Christ and His language of symbolism.  Come, learn to connect more deeply with God, recognize your intelligence, and experience the joy of seeing the light of understanding move from your children’s minds to their hearts.

Tresta is the co-creator of Keystone Education and co-directs the Called to Learn Conference with her amazing husband, Thom. She is the author of “God Saw That It Was Good,” “The Theology Tree” and “The Key Pattern of Learning.” She is a sought-after speaker, teaches online classes, and mentors as her mentor taught her on life skills, family relationships, systems, and homeschooling.

The Effects of Hebrew Principles

Greek and Hebrew methodologies are buzzwords within the education and political world lately. The United States was founded on the Greek language, Roman laws, and Hebrew religion. When we took the Bible out of schools our education philosophy changed from Hebrew based to Greek-based methods. Others can tell you the exact history, how it happened, and the results. I want to show you the difference between the two methods and give you practical ways to return to our roots by using the Hebrew method.

God is in Charge

“I want out!” was Tresta’s reaction to being a young mother and her husband’s request to homeschool. Learn the five ways she discovered that made all the difference. Learn how keeping a record of what they did in homeschooling becomes a book of remembrance and great joy to yourself and your children.  Learn some specific words and practices to help strengthen your relationships and to help you remember that God can make your homeschool experience better than you can.

Math Myths

Math is a testimony that God is trustworthy. We count on the answers to math problems to always be the same. Mankind changes the signs and symbols of math, but God holds it all together and keeps it constant. We can rely on him. Remember every time you do a math problem it is a testimony that God can be trusted. 🙂
