Third Day before Passover (Tuesday)

At a moment when Jesus stepped away from Jerusalem he pondered, “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, which killest the prophets, and stonest them that are sent unto thee; how often would I have gathered thy children together, as a hen doth gather her brood under her wings, and ye would not!” (Matt 23:37; Luke 13:34)

There are no recorded events that happened this day so I wanted to ponder this event and one other that is recorded as happening the day before.

At another moment Jesus, while at the temple treasurer, noticed a poor widow donating two mites (Mark 12:41-42; BD “money”) It is said that Jesus told his disciples about the Widow’s Mite, “This woman has given more than all of the rich men. they have plenty of money and they gave only a small amount to the temple treasure. This woman had only two small coins and she gave all she had.”

The Widow’s Mite is the term used in the King James version Bible referring to the smallest coin in use between 100 BC and 60 AD. also known as a lepton, these coins were typically struck in bronze.

It is interesting to note that, during this time coins with heathen designs, such as human faces or figures were forbidden. This explains the fact that the coins usually depict plant or palm tree designs.
